Connecting you to Ocado via EDI
Ocado is a leading online grocery retailer known for its innovative and technology-driven approach to the grocery industry. Powered by advanced automation and robotics, Ocado’s state-of-the-art fulfillment centers ensure efficient order processing and accurate deliveries. With a strong emphasis on customer convenience, Ocado has changed the way people shop for groceries by offering a seamless online shopping experience and a reliable home delivery service.
Whether you’re an SME or a small business, in order to trade with companies like Ocado, you will be required to connect via EDI.
Ocado’s onboarding process
In order to trade with Ocado, you’ll first need to become an official supplier. If you haven’t done that already, you’ll need to fill out a form to register your interest. Take a look at their supplier form here.
Once your supplier relationship with Ocado has been agreed upon and you have confirmed the message types you’ll be exchanging, you will gain access to their supplier portal, Olive. Here you’ll be able to review your information with Ocado, including your Supplier ID and GLN (Global Location Number) which you will need to provide to us during the onboarding phase.
Then we can set you up with either of our robust and dependable EDI solutions: Netix One or Netix Flow. Both solutions are designed to facilitate seamless sending and receiving of EDI transmissions, ensuring efficient and reliable data exchange.
Our onboarding process
We have two EDI solutions that will connect you to Ocado.
Netix One is our cloud-based solution that’s best suited for small businesses looking to connect with trading partners.
Netix Flow goes that step further adding additional functionality by integrating with your existing systems to automate information flows straight into your ERP, e-commerce, inventory, or WMS. After deciding on which solution suits your business needs, it’s important to provide our projects team with your:
- Supplier ID
- GLN (Global Location Number)
This information helps us to quickly set up a Value-Added Network (VAN) mailbox to which all your EDI messages will be sent and received. Ocado trades using the TRADACOMS standard. To exchange messages through the VAN network, you will need to adopt this EDI standard.
The common messages we set up for Ocado trading relationships:
- Invoices
- Purchase order
- Shipping Notes
- Proof of Delivery
Due to Ocado’s high level of automation in their fulfillment centers, it is important to note that Ocado expects suppliers to send Advanced Shipping Notices (ASNs) via EDI for every delivery. As part of ASNs, suppliers are also required to send Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) labels to identify the pallets that are delivered to their fulfillment centers. We have created an ASN designed specifically for Netix called NeASN, which allows you to improve supplier relationships by optimising your shipments to keep the receiver updated every step of the way.
To ensure that you can start trading with Ocado right away, we make the EDI connection process as smooth, easy, and fast as possible. With pre-configured maps for Ocado, a portion of your connection is already set up and waiting for your solution to be connected.
After all information has been passed over, we’ll begin the testing phase. Our installation team will validate and test your agreed EDI messages on your behalf, ensuring your Netix solution is working as desired.
Once testing is complete, we’ll set the date for your ‘go live’. You’ll then be set up and ready to start trading with Ocado via EDI.
